When to Change a Diaper
In the first couple of months, you may find yourself changing diapers up to 10 times in 24 hours. Diapers should be changed whenever they are wet or soiled. Your baby will often (but not always) let you know. With a super-absorbent diaper like Pampers diapers, you can tell if it's wet by feeling for lumps in the absorbent material.

Here are some common times for changing diapers:

  • Right before or right after every feeding
  • After every bowel movement
  • Before bedtime
  • When your baby wakes up
  • When you go out with your baby

The Art of Changing Diapers
Pampers Diapers are designed to adjust to your baby's shape for a snug, comfortable fit. While changing diapers there's no need to fold the waistband in or out or to adjust the leg cuffs.

  • Place tabs parallel to the waistband and centered on the character strip.
  • Use the characters as guides to ensure the fasteners are evenly spaced.
  • Keep baby products such as powder away from the fasteners so they maintain their stickiness.

Wiping baby bottoms

All Pampers baby wipes help clean away bacteria, even after a wet change. Have a supply handy while changing diapers to help keep your baby clean and fresh.

For baby girls, while changing diapers always wipe from front to back to minimize the amount of stool material that gets near her genitals. Also, be careful to clean all areas, as the folds in the skin around her genitals can hide urine and soil.

Treating and preventing diaper rash
Red bumps on your baby's bottom may mean diaper rash. It can be caused by many factors, including leaving urine or bowel movement on the skin too long between changing diapers or even as a result of taking antibiotics. And when your baby starts solid foods, wait a few days between introducing each new food to see if the rash was caused by a particular food.

If your baby has diaper rash, clean the entire diapered area gently but thoroughly with a baby wipe. It is also helpful to allow air to reach the skin. Talk to your pediatrician or pharmacist if the rash does not improve.

Finding the right size
Just like you, babies like to wear things that fit just right. Choose a size that does not sag or gap, even as your baby crawls and plays. This will help prevent leaks. Each product description on this site gives guidelines that represent the average weight for a particular size. And remember, when you move up a size, you gain absorbency.

Weighing babies
The easiest way to weigh your baby is to first hop on the scale yourself. See how much you weigh, then see how much you weigh when you hold your baby. If you subtract your weight, you'll know how much your baby weighs.

Safe diapering
You buy the latest toys and babies wind up playing with silly things - like diapers. It's important to keep diapers where they should be, on your baby's bottom. Don't let your baby put the diaper in her mouth. Discard any diaper that has become torn or unsealed, and read the warning label on all bags.

Diaper gel facts
AGM is the absorbent gelling material widely used in diaper padding to absorb wetness. It is perfectly normal to see some gel on the skin from time to time, especially if the diaper is heavily saturated. It can easily be removed by wiping your baby's skin.

This material has a long history of safe use in a variety of products and has been in diapers for more than a decade. Absorbent gelling material is closely related to ingredients widely used in cosmetics, in food processing and as binders in medicine capsules.

Waste removal

As the Pampers bag recommends, you'll want to dump bowel movements in the toilet. Then just roll the diaper into its backsheet, using the tape or fasteners to keep it closed, and dispose of it in the trash.

Diaper storage

Store your diapers in an area protected from extreme heat and humidity and away from products with fragrances. We recommend the diaper be kept in a dry storage area where the temperature is 85 degrees or less.

Lost Another Customer
Of course I want the best for my 5-month old daughter and I thought that these diapers were the best. They were "blankie-soft" and I loved the wetness indicator, in fact, I used this brand exclusively for the past five months. HOWEVER, I just bought a new box and everything has changed for the worst, they feel like cardboard!!! I feel guilty putting them against my daughters skin all day long. And the wetness indicator is gone, yet there was no obvious indication on the package that the product had changed. I agree with one of the previous posts...this was a horrible upgrade and Pampers has definitely lost another customer. I would have gladly paid more for this product if they had kept the great features and softness of the previous version....you would think the R&D department would have figured that out.

Was best UNTIL changes - will never buy again
We loved the previous design they were only diapers we would buy. The wetness indicator was very helpful for first-timers. Newborn and Size 1 fit our baby perfectly. When we bought our first size 2 we noticed the absence of the color strip, the fragrance/scent, and that they are not as "blankie-soft" as before. We just thought that was because they were not the little little sizes. But then we noticed that every time our boy has a little poopie it leaks out the top of the back and we were going through an outfit change every time he went #2. We had not thought of posting a review until we noticed others mentioning the same complaints, we just thought maybe they were fitting awkward because of the constant leaks and that only the bigger sizes stopped using the color strip. Again these were the *only* diapers we used for 4 months but not anymore. We have had tremendous luck with Huggies Snug & Dry. Too bad we bought extra boxes that we are not going to use. Its too bad that comapnies "fix" things that were not "broken"

what happened?
what is pampers thinking? i have a new baby and have been using these pampers since leaving the hospital to much success on him - i tried several brands, and pampers swaddlers were my favorite by far. recently, the last few boxes we have bought had diapers that didn't include the indicator strip, which was one of my favorite features. i assumed that the strip was a new feature and we had accidentally bought some old stock; i mean, why would a company take away a great and totally useful feature like that? it must be new, right? well, i have come to this site only to discover that pampers has taken that feature away. why? with the strip, i always knew when he was wet without much hassle to my baby, and because the indicator was so obvious, i probably changed the diaper more frequently (to pampers' advantage) than i really needed to. please please please bring it back! it is greatly missed!
